9 Escape Cobb House Fire That Killed Pets
One of nine residents who survived a house fire suffered smoke injuries in Cobb County.
AUSTELL, GA — Nine people escaped a house fire that killed several cats and a dog early Thursday at Mt. Pisgah Downs in Austell, fire officials said.
The blaze sparked around 3:15 a.m. All residents were out of the home when crews arrived, according to Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services.
Firefighters began attacking the flames and working to confirm no one else was inside the house.

Officials said the fire began on the rear deck and spread to the main floor and attic.
One of the residents had to be treated for smoke injuries, but they refused to be taken to the hospital, fire officials said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents, and the cause of the fire is being investigated, officials said.
