MABLETON, Ga., June 21, 2012 -– Representatives of Assurant and Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta on Thursday dedicated the 10th home sponsored by the company and built by volunteers from Assurant’s Atlanta offices.
Every Thursday for eight weeks, employees from Assurant – nearly 200 in all – built the new home of the Grhas family in suburban Mableton. In addition to employee volunteers, who worked under the guidance of Habitat volunteers and staff, a donation from Assurant and the Assurant Foundation funded the construction materials. In addition to the 10 houses sponsored in full, Assurant’s Atlanta offices have also partnered on two co-sponsorships.
The Assurant house is also the sixth home in a Habitat initiative that has transformed an entire block in Mableton. Northwest Metro Atlanta Habitat acquired and developed the entire cul-de-sac in partnership with the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Cobb County Community Development Block Grant Program.
