Austell Man Convicted of Aggravated Assault

The incident happened in April 2014 at a south Cobb garage.

MARIETTA, GA -- An Austell man has been convicted of assaulting another man after a disagreement.

A Cobb County jury deliberated less than an hour before convicting Salim Peterrl Disu, 30, of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

On April 19, 2014, Disu and the victim got into a verbal altercation at a mechanic’s garage on Royal Industrial Boulevard, near Ga. 78.

Both men walked away, but then Disu picked up a heavy tool and raged at the victim, striking him in the head. When the victim fell to the ground, Disu proceeded to punch him repeatedly. The victim required nearly 20 stitches to close the gash.

The two are part of a community of immigrants from Ghana.

The victim, who is now 41, has mostly recovered but still suffers serious headaches from the attack.

Shortly after the verdict, Cobb Superior Court Judge S. Lark Ingram sentenced Disu to 13 years, with six years to serve in prison and the rest on probation.
