Students need more than just book bags.
While we deeply appreciate the many organizations providing school supplies, our resources must be deployed more intentionally. We need to ensure families understand the importance of stable housing, possess the tools to remain housed, and have opportunities to participate in positive community engagement.
A new book bag brings a smile, but it doesn't solve the deeper crisis: many of our communities see high student transiency, where the same child rarely stays in the same district from kindergarten through 12th grade. Low-wage jobs and the daily struggle for survival leave families and neighborhoods in despair. The time is now to rethink traditional back-to-school events and get intentional about stabilizing our communities.

How Parents Can Take Action At These Events:
Stay Engaged: Don’t just pick up supplies and leave; actively engage with the organizers and resource tables.

Provide Accurate Contact Info: Make sure to give organizations your correct phone number and email address so they can follow up with vital resources.

Speak Up About Obstacles: Share the real challenges and barriers your family is facing so organizations know exactly how to help.

Build a Network: Find a trusted community friend, neighbor, or ally to help navigate local challenges together.

Step into Leadership: Take part in local leadership opportunities to help advocate for the lasting changes our neighborhoods need.
