Connect with Neighbors, Join an Adult Sports League

It's a way to get active and connect with others in the South Cobb community!

South Cobb Patch is one way to connect with your neighbors, but another way to get out in the community with the people who live in Austell and Mableton is to join an adult sports league or active group.

  • The Cobb Tennis League allows you to compete with players of similar ability. There are adult and youth leagues available. For adults, levels range from NTRP 2.0-5.0. The 2.0 level is for those who consider themselves 'true beginners.' Players register individually and are matched against other players at their ability level.

The best part is that this is a "flex league," which means you play at your convenience and can play at any tennis courts in the county–at parks, clubs or subdivisions.  There is one spring season and one fall season, which begins Oct. 24. Registration is currently in progress and entries are due by Oct. 17. For more information and registration brochure, see the Cobb Tennis League web site.

  • Remember how fun kickball was when you were a kid (unless you were the last one picked)? Well, be a kid again with your neighbors with an Austell kickball team as part of Kickin' It With Cobb, a co-ed kickball league. Players must be at least 21 years old.

According to their event listing here on South Cobb Patch, "Kickin' It With Cobb is designed to provide it's players with a unique and exciting social experience on and off the field. Our after game activities include visiting our favorite hometown bar, Mexico Lindo, for food and drink and networking."

  • Get the gang together or find softball lovers in the community and register as a team for the softball tournament, which starts at 6 p.m. on Oct. 7 and at 8 a.m. on Oct. 8. The tournament is double-elimination homerun derby style, and all proceeds benefit children's cancer research. Teams that register by Sept. 27 will save $25 on the $325 team registration fee, which includes t-shirts.
Bring the kids and the rest of the family because there will be activities and raffles throughout the event as well. For vendor/registration information, contact Chris Bell at (770) 499-3919 or at cbell.cops_ckc@yahoo.com. For volunteer information, contact Mike Bowman at (770) 499-4134.
  • Every Monday night, leads a group ride departing the shop at 6 p.m. for a jaunty 25-mile trek through Smyrna, Mableton, and Austell.

“There are a few sprint points, two are KOM climbs, and there is an uphill sprint close to the end of the ride,” according to the shop’s website. No need to RSVP, just show up at the shop, ready to pedal hard, socialize, and have a blast. The bike enthusiasts at the store say “It's a lot of fun, and pretty challenging.”
