Friday Football Preview

Eagles and Falcons rested, Wolfpack look rusty

and  both had byes last week and will get back on the field this Friday. struggled against Landmark, by only scoring 10 points. The season is at a crossroads for all three of these teams. We will find out which direction they are going in on Friday night.

McEachern at South Cobb

The Eagles needed a rest after dropping their last game. The week off should have given them extra time to prepare for a tough team like McEachern.

South Cobb was thoroughly defeated by Hillgrove 40-7 two weeks ago. Six turnovers led straight to three Hillgrove touchdowns, which kept South Cobb from mounting any sort of comeback.

Despite the loss, running back Chris Beck played great once again. He rushed for 156 yards on 31 carries. It was the third 100-yard-plus effort for Beck this season.

The turnovers proved to be too much to overcome. It is virtually impossible to win a game when there are six turnovers committed. If the Eagles want to get back on the winning track against McEachern next week that has to change.

The Indians will be another tough test for the Eagles. McEachern shut out Campbell 55-0 last week.

Prediction: McEachern 30 South Cobb 20

Kennesaw Mountain at Pebblebrook

The Falcons got a well deserved rest last week after winning their first game of the season. Finally, after three straight losses, Pebblebrook got their first win with a 21-14 defeat of Harrison. Quarterback C.J. Goodman needed a respite after dealing with injuries for the majority of this season.

Suddenly, 2011 is starting to look a lot like 2010 for the Falcons. Last year, Pebblebrook started 0-2, then rattled off three straight wins. This year, they started 0-3 and have a great chance to move to 2-3 against Kennesaw this week.

Kennesaw Mountain is not a very good football team. They are 0-4 and have looked like a squad that has deserved to lose each game. The Falcons must take advantage of this opportunity and if they do they can get back into playoff contention.

Prediction: Pebblebrook 28 Kennesaw Mountain 14

Eagles Landing Christian at Whitefield Academy

The Wolpack dropped to 2-3 last week after a 34-10 loss to Landmark Christian. It is difficult to figure this team out; one week they look like world beaters and the next week they don't look like they belong on the same field as their opponents.

The Whitefield run defense could not stop the War Eagles backs last week. The Wolfpack allowed two rushing touchdowns and over 100 yards on the ground.

The pass defense wasn't much better, allowing a 60-yard touchdown pass that put the game away.

Special teams allowed a long punt return that set up another Landmark score.

Quarterback Max Kemether has been steady this season and he was again last week with 183 yards passing and one touchdown.

If Whitefield wants to beat Eagles Landing, they need to tackle better and get a more balanced attack from the offense. The running game seemed non-existent last week.

Eagles Landing is a big challenge for the Wolfpack. The Chargers have scored 100 points in their last two games combined. It is an important region contest and if the Wolfpack want to go anywhere this year they have to win this game.

Prediction: Eagles Landing Christian 35 Whitefield Academy 17
