Bites Nearby: Taqueria Los Hermanos

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here is this week's choice:

There are plenty of “Americanized” Mexican restaurant chains all over town (not naming names, here), but Taqueria Los Hermanos, with locations in Tucker, Lilburn, Suwanee and Lawrenceville, isn’t one of them.

Oh sure, you’ll still be served a basket of chips and a dish of salsa when you sit down  — just like everywhere else — but the similarity ends right there.  offers a more traditional Mexican flavor than you may be used to, beginning with the salsa and spreading all over the menu. If you want to order a combination number, like at other places, you’re out of luck — “So, honey, are you going to have the number ‘7’ or the ‘24’ tonight?” will never be asked here.

The menu has several do-not-miss selections. If you’re a first-timer, the Res Ahumado (Beef Brisket), with sautéed spinach, roasted potatoes and pico de gallo is worth a try. More adventurous? The Marisco Enchiladas combines shrimp, crawfish and onions and is topped with a creamy poblano pepper sauce. The Sopa De Mariscos (Seafood Soup), served only during winter, is an extraordinary concoction. 

There’s also a great selection of burritos, fajitas, tacos, salads, soups and desserts (try the yummy bread pudding).
