Bites Nearby: The Oyster Barn

Stepping inside the Oyster Barn for the first time, you one may be unsure whether you're on the deck of a pirate ship or the inside of a pool hall, but you will be certain that's there is a great selection of seafood at budget-friendly prices.

The Oyster barn has a list of changing daily specials posted on a white board at the entrance of the restaurant, as well as long-standing lunch specials. Lunch specials come in either baskets or soup and salad combinations. Lunch baskets include the fried shrimp basket ($7.95), wing basket ($6.95) and the Philly cheesesteak special ($7.95). Soup and salad combos such as cup of gumbo or oyster stew are priced at $7.50. In addition to these specials there is also (dine-in only) 1 pound of Snow Crab for $7.99 every Tuesday.

Alcohol is served here along with a myriad of entertainment options such as an Oyster Bar, weekly Saturday night karaoke, pool room, banquet facilities and KENO lottery (in February a lucky Oyster Barn patron won $40,000). 

The crab cakes are a recommended appetizer, and the two cakes are moist and drizzled with a creamy "special sauce" with just a hint of spice. There are many entree options. Try out a po-boy, which can come with fried tilapia, shrimp, oyster or catfish. Beyond the sandwich variety options are Penne Pasta with your choice of seafood mixed in as well as steamed shrimp, crab legs and of course oysters. Interestingly the Oyster Barn also boasts an impressive wing list, and claims to make an award-winning 'barn style' flavored wing. 

The Oyster Barn is kid-friendly and a great casual evening hangout spot. The service was good and appetizers and entrees arrived within minutes of ordering.

The Oyster Barn is located at 411 Beaver Ruin Rd. Hours of operation are Mon-Sat 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. and Sun 12:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Lunch items range in price from $6.95-8.95 while dinner items are priced from $7.95 - $20.95. Happy Hour drink specials are served all day and takeout is available.
