Resolve to Help More Pets in 2012

Making New Year's resolutions? Resolve to help more homeless pets in 2012. Together, we can create a safer, more compassionate community for pets who need us the most.

Resolve to be involved in 2012. Don't lament the problem of pet homelessness and wait for someone else to solve it. While we as animal welfare groups dedicate our time, energy and finances to save pets, there just isn't enough time or money to solve the crisis unless everyone who cares about the problem gets involved. Consider fostering, walking dogs, scooping litter, fundraising, answering phone calls or some other way that you can make a difference in whatever time you have available.

Resolve to be loud in 2012. Homeless pets don't have a voice - no representatives, no votes, no social safety nets. We are their voices. And if we are quiet, or worse, silent, then they will be overlooked and pushed aside. Tell your county and city government that you care what happens to animals where you live. Demand better care, better programs, more funding. If you have a voice that is attached to a vote, government officials will listen and do more.

Resolve to donate in 2012. Sometimes it seems overwhelming to donate, or you feel like a small donation won't make a difference. But if even 10 percent of the residents of metro Atlanta donated just $25 a year to a animal rescue group, we'd have over $13 million dollars a year to help homeless pets. Imagine how many pets we can save with $13 million!

Resolve to adopt in 2012. What's the best way to save a homeless pet? Adopt one. If you have space, time and money to support another dog or cat, consider adopting from a local shelter or rescue group. With each adoption, you save two lives - the pet you adopt and the pet that takes the open spot in an adoption program.
