STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — The City of Stone Mountain has established a downtown entertainment district that allows patrons to consume alcoholic beverages within a designated area.
The district encompasses nearly a dozen restaurants and venues that offer food, beverages and live entertainment.
The district aims to support businesses in Stone Mountain Village and increase pedestrian traffic in the heart of the city. Mayor Jelani Linder said the district is another effort to help make Stone Mountain a destination for metro Atlanta residents and visitors seeking a fun and engaging day trip.
“We have a lot to offer, from fine and casual dining to music and seasonal events, all encompassed by a rich heritage and history,” Linder said. “This district will help us capitalize on our town’s uniqueness and its small-town charm.”
On Sept. 15, the City Council unanimously adopted a resolution establishing the district and an ordinance allowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages within its boundaries.
The district operates from 11 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Beverages must be purchased from a participating, licensed establishment within the district and served in a clear, disposable container with a City-approved sticker. Glass containers are not permitted.
Participating merchants must hold a valid City alcohol license for on-premise consumption and receive City approval to operate within the district.
Karen Patton, who has operated The Sweet Potato at 5377 Manor Drive for 15 years, called the concept “a great idea.”
“It will greatly benefit those of us who are down here,” the chef said, “and it gives people another reason to come down and support us.”
