Child Shot When Gun Goes Off At Stone Mountain Home
A child's brother was attempting to put a gun away when it went off, shooting the child in the next room at a DeKalb home, police say.
STONE MOUNTAIN, GA β A child was injured in a shooting after police say a gun went off when their older brother tried to put it away Monday morning at a Stone Mountain home.
The incident happened around 2:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Abberley Way. DeKalb County Police said the child was younger than age 10 and suffered a gunshot wound.
This came after police say the gun went off when the child's 21-year-old brother picked it up to put it away. The child was in the next room when they were shot, police said.

The child's injuries were moderate, and the child was in stable condition, police said.
The brother was taken to DeKalb County Jail, where he will be charged, police said.

"DeKalb County Police would like to remind all gun owners that the department offers free gun safes at any of our four precincts, Monday through Friday. This free service is provided in the hopes of preventing incidents like this from happening to other families," police said in a news release.
