DeKalb Teen Indicted On Murder Charges In Fatal Shooting

The 17-year-old boy was accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend's best friend in July at a Panola Road restaurant.

LITHONIA, GA — A 17-year-old boy was indicted Tuesday after being accused of shooting another teenage boy outside of a Panola Road restaurant in July, DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston's office said in a news release Wednesday.

A DeKalb County grand jury indicted Jakari Childs, 17, on suspicion of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the release.

Childs was accused of arriving unannounced on July 15 at the restaurant in search of his ex-girlfriend, who was an employee at the eatery. Jacob Johnson, a 16-year-old boy who was the girl's best friend, also worked at the restaurant and told the girl that Childs had arrived there.

When the ex-girlfriend went outside and asked Childs to leave, Childs was accused of immediately shooting and ultimately killing Johnson, who had been standing next to the girl.

She ran to a neighboring business and asked workers to call 911, according to the release. All three teenagers attended the same school.
