FBI Joins Hunt for Lithonia Armored Car Robbers

The pair fled Saturday's heist in a Jeep Cherokee with no license plate, says bureau.

LITHONIA, GA — The FBI has joined the search for two men who robbed an armored car courier Saturday as he was filling an ATM with cash at a local bank.

The FBI said it will assist the DeKalb County Police Department in the investigation of the robbery, and David LeValley, the head of the bureau's Atlanta Field Office, asked Thursday for the public's help in identifying the robbers.

The bureau also released images taken Saturday by the bank's surveillance cameras of the robbers and their vehicle.

The heist occurred at about 2:33 p.m. Saturday, when an unidentified individual approached an armed Dunbar Armored Car courier while he was servicing an ATM drive-through station at the Bank of America, at 3141 Turner Hill Road in Lithonia, according to an FBI statement.

Brandishing a handgun, the robber seized an undisclosed amount of money. He was fully dressed in black clothing, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and ski mask, and was working with another robber, the FBI said.

One of the male assailants was at least 5 feet 9 inches tall, "but not much else in the way of physical descriptions of either individual was fully determined due to clothing and the manner of the assault," the FBI said.

Both robbers left the area in a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee, the FBI said. The vehicle had no license plate.

Anyone with information on this robbery should contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at (404) 577-8477. There is a reward offered, and calls can remain anonymous.
