GBI Investigating Officer Shooting in DeKalb

A Conyers police officer shot a suspect multiple times after a traffic stop off of Interstate 20.

LITHONIA, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting by a Conyers police officer in Lithonia on Tuesday.

At about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, a Conyers police officer located a vehicle believed to be driven by Diondre David Evans, 22.

Evans was being sought after an alleged domestic violence incident earlier Tuesday. There were warrants for his arrest on charges of battery, criminal trespass and obstructing an emergency 911 call.

As they attempted to remove Evans from his vehicle, the GBI says, Evans refused and was tasered by the deputy.

"Evans continued to move his vehicle and was subsequently shot multiple times by the officer," a news release from the GBI says.

Evans was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his arm and neck. He was listed Wednesday in stable condition.

The GBI's investigation will seek to determine exactly what happened to lead to the shooting. When completed, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County district attorney's office "for any action they deem appropriate."
