Grab and Go Kids Planner

Here are some places in Stone Mountain and the surrounding area to take the whole family.

Print this off and keep it handy if you’re looking for ideas for family activities in the next few days.  It looks like it’s going to be damp and cold again, so we’ve found some family-friendly activities to keep everyone out of the house and, hopefully, out of each other’s hair. 

SNOW MOUNTAIN FUN (www.stonemountainpark.com)

Where/when: Through March 6 at Stone Mountain Park.

Why Go: “Real” snow on more than 20 slides and a family play area. You can slide alone or on a family tube.

Pricing: It’s not cheap ($27 per ticket), but you can save by becoming a park member or packaging Snow Mountain with other park attractions. Also, Kroger stores offers a $4-off coupon.

CANDY BINGO (www.dekalb.public.lib.ga.us)

Where/when: Monday, Feb. 7, at Sue Kellogg Library.

Why go: Kids from 6-12 get to play candy bingo and then decorate a cupcake for someone special. It's open to the first 24 participants.  

Pricing: It's free!

STONE MOUNTAIN CHESS CLUB (www.dekalb.public.lib.ga.us)

Where/when:  Monday, Feb. 7, 6:30-7:30 pm at the Sue Kellogg Library.

Why go:  Because you need to check this out, chess mate. All ages (over 6) and skill levels are welcome to participate.  Parents must remain in the building if children participate.

Pricing: It's free!

PRESCHOOL STORY TIME (www.gwinnettpl.org)

Where/when: 10:15 a.m. Friday at the  and 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the  of the Gwinnett County Lilbrary.

Why Go: Fun stories will entertain your children ages 2-5.

Pricing: Free.

GLAD FRIDAYS (www.gwinnettgladiators.com)

Where/when: The Gwinnett Gladiators host “Friendly Fridays” for home Friday games during the season at the Gwinnett Arena.

Why Go: Hockey is always fun to see live, and the Gwinnett Arena gives you an up-close look at the hard-hitting action.

Pricing: Special Friday pricing (adults, $20; kids $15) includes a premium level ticket, a soda and food.

CANDY MAKING DEMO (www.cakeart.com)

Where/when: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Cake Art Party Store in Tucker.

Why Go: See the tricks of the treats at the 123 Candy Making Demo, which covers chocolate, turtles, crunches, lollipops, peanut-butter cups and more.

Pricing: $5.
