High School Football Predictions

Stephenson should face first big challenge of the season, but Jags should prevail; Stone Mountain can't afford loss vs. McNair.

Every week, I pick high school football games that are played in Patch coverage areas from Cumming to Stone Mountain.

Check out this week's predictions, then let us know how you think your team will fare in the comment box below ... if you dare.

Are you ready for another round of picks?

East Coweta at (Hallford Stadium): There’ll be no coasting into the playoffs for the Stephenson Jaguars, but that’s a good thing.  The Jags’ final three games are against the top of the Region 2-AAAAA standings and it begins with East Coweta (6-1, 3-1 in the region), which is coming off its first loss of the season to Westlake. Stephenson (7-0, 4-0), led by 1,000-yard rusher Mike Davis, hasn’t been challenged on the field this season. East Coweta offers a challenge, but that only means this shouldn’t be a blowout. Stephenson 34, East Coweta 24.

at Tucker: Tucker (7-0 overall and in Region 7-AAAA) can take one step closer to locking up the inevitable — the region championship. After tighter games against Southwest DeKalb and Marist to start the season, the Tigers have steamrolled over their competition since. Yusuf Minor is a touchdown-machine on a team that can score in every way imaginable. Redan (2-5) had been playing better at midseason, but last week’s 52-0 loss to Southwest was the Raider’s worst loss of the season. Tucker 50, Redan 10.

McNair at  (Saturday, Hallford Stadium): Stone Mountain’s mission is clear for the rest of the season. The Pirates cannot lose another game (and get some help from other teams) if they want be in good position once the Region 5-AAA play-in games come Nov. 4. Stone Mountain is 5-2 overall, but 2-2 in 5-AAA, Division B. Things look good against McNair (0-7, 0-4). Stone Mountain 28, McNair 17.
