Gwinnett Man Accused Of Assaulting Store Worker In Theft Of Tools

The man, accused in the suspected assault of a Home Depot worker, is also accused of neglecting to register as a sex offender.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA β€” A man is in jail after authorities say he assaulted a Home Depot employee while stealing power tools from the Norcross store.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday said they arrested Tony Demps in connection with the suspected assault, which they say occurred in September 2023. They said Demps took tools from a cabinet that he pawned for $80.

Warrants were obtained to charge Demps with robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, authorities said.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office also sought Demps after authorities say he neglected to register as a sex offender.

He was arrested without incident at a gas station Monday in Stone Mountain, and is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail, authorities said.
