Millions of LinkedIn Passwords Reportedly Stolen

The professional networking site says it is "looking into the issue."

If you use LinkedIn -- and millions of people do -- you might want to change your password ASAP.

The online job-networking site reportedly has been hacked, with more than 6 million passwords stolen, mashable.com reported Wednesday.

A Russian forum user claims he has hacked LinkedIn, uploading 6,458,020 encrypted passwords (without usernames) as proof, Mashable reported.

While there’s a possibility that the password collection is not genuine, some reports on Twitter add credibility to the story. LinkedIn said on Twitter it’s looking into the issue.

On its Twitter feed, LinkedIn says it is "looking into" the password issue.

Launched in 2003, LinkedIn reportedly has 150 million registered users. Basic membership is free. Also, it's common for people to link their status updates on LinkedIn to their Twitter accounts.
