Painted Flower Pots for Mother's Day

There is a very special day looming ahead. Mother’s Day honors our dear women who gave us life and so much more. It’s highlighted by a feast for mom and gifts of flowers.

Olivia Thomason, the acclaimed Folk Artist and Stone Mountain resident, created something special, and so very original: Painted Pots. She’s been hand-painting these for a couple of months and they’ve caught on through word of mouth.

“Every scene is original,” she said, adding that “each pot is 8” terra cotta; everything is done here in my studio.

The process is labor intensive, said Ms. Thomason, and takes about three to four full days for each pot to be finished.

Pigs, puppies, Kittens, chickens, flamingoes, doves, cows, horses, along with lovey butterflies, and more plus Noah’s Ark, airplanes, beach scenes and sailboats are just a sampling of these original and very colorful creations.

Decatur resident, Dr. Jane Billings is a fan of Ms. Thomason’s art and recently bought two pots, adorned with fields of wildflowers, songbirds, turtles and rainbows and more. “I’m getting a few more soon,” she told me.
