A stretch of Panola Road in DeKalb County is a little bit cleaner after a group a workers joined forces in a clean-up effort.

Commissioner Stan Watson, along with a DeKalb sanitization work crew, code enforcement officers and community volunteers, cleaned up a section of Panola Road Saturday morning.

“The Panola Road area is one of the locations in my district that was identified as an area that needed some elbow-grease," Watson said. "I am grateful for the participants who I can count on to support my efforts to improve the quality of life for those who call DeKalb County home."

The spirit of volunteerism was high among the participants in spite of the rain that began to fall as the cleanup started. The teams of workers, which started at the Citizen’s Trust Bank on Panola Road near I-20, were dispersed along Panola Road and Covington Highway and Panola Road and Rock Springs Road. Each team member was given a safety vest, gloves and a tool for picking up trash on the street.  Bottled water was provided by Team Watson.

Darren Stevenson, a volunteer coordinator for Commissioner Watson, was a part of the morning cleanup effort. “We want to make DeKalb County beautiful”, said Stevenson.

“There are several additional locations [that] have been identified as areas where future community clean ups will be held in the upcoming months," the commissioner said. "I am grateful to all of the people who take time out of their busy weekends to meet my challenge [and] …“pull up your sleeves and make a difference."
