After being sworn into her position Thursday morning, Cheryl Atkinson met administrators and teachers at six DeKalb schools, including Redan and Eldredge L. Miller
DeKalb County Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson wasted no time in getting to know some of the district's schools.
Shortly after being sworn in Thursday morning at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Decatur, Atkinson began visiting schools -- just as she said she would, before the DeKalb County Board of Education approved her in a 6-3 vote last month.

She met with principals and several teachers, shook hands and spoke with students, and got a first-hand look at some of the classes and activities the schools have to offer.
"It was my first day and I think it was important to be in the schools," Atkinson said. "I plan to visit every school and talk with every principal."
