Whiz Kid: Yasmine Brooks

Each week, Stone Mountain Patch will feature an outstanding kid or teen or a group of them, picked from readers' suggestions. 

Our very first Whiz Kid is Yasmine Brooks, 11 years old.

School: Stone Mountain Elementary

Accomplishment: Reading bowl captain for her school, and she's made the principal's list three times in a row. She's also a third-year honor student.

Key to her awesomeness: Yasmine is an exemplary student and one smart cookie. Now in the fifth grade, she tested at a ninth grade level and has already skipped one grade.  She's a member of the school's safety patrol, junior master gardener's club and a book club. Yasmine has set the bar high for her future: She wants to go to Yale or Juilliard when she finishes high school. And since she was 3 years old, Yasmine has known that she wants to be a teacher.  Yasmine's advice to other kids: "Listen to your teacher, stay in school. Don't let things get you off track from what your goal is."
