Collins Hill, Other Schools Locked Down Due To Police Activity

There was no incident at the school, but officials ordered a "soft lockdown" while police tried to capture a suspect nearby.

SUWANEE, GA -- Collins Hill High School and other nearby public schools were locked down Wednesday as a precaution due to police activity in the area.

Gwinnett Police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said police were trying to catch a motor-vehicle theft suspect in the area of Collins Hill Road and Camp Perrin Road in Lawrenceville.

She said it was not known whether the suspect was armed. The search was suspended around 12:45 p.m. and lockdowns were expected to be lifted soon afterward, Pihera said.
