News Nearby: 2 of 3 Teens Missing Near Lake Lanier Found Safe

Police are using sonar to find the third teen.

UPDATE (2:52 p.m.): Forsyth County Fire Chief Jason Shivers has told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he is hopeful that a missing teenager will be found in a cove near Two Mile Creek Park, but is afraid that he may have drowned in Lake Lanier Monday evening.

The AJC reports that two sonar boats are on Lake Lanier searching for the missing teen, covering what Shivers said was a large search effort. The Forsyth County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office are working with the county’s Geographic Information Services, the state Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Fortunately, two teenage girls who were also feared missing have been located safe by Forsyth County sheriff’s deputies by visiting their homes and calling their friends and relatives.

The trio of teenagers fled from an illegal drinking party at Two Mile Creek Park just after midnight when a sheriff’s deputy came to break up the event. Some 20 people were in attendance. Shivers added that if the teen was intoxicated, it could have hampered his ability to swim.

UPDATE (1:38 p.m.): Two of the three teenagers that Forsyth County authorities were looking for after fleeing from a party on Monday night have been found safe, but search crews are now on Lake Lanier looking for the third.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, authorities announced that the two teenagers had been found just after 1 p.m. on Monday. 11 Alive news reports that Forsyth County marine units are on Lake Lanier using sonar to determine whether or not the third teenager may be on the lake. No divers have been in the water yet.

ORIGINAL STORY (11:29 a.m.): The Forsyth County Fire Department and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office are at Lake Lanier looking for three teenagers who ran away from sheriff’s deputies who broke up a party Monday night.

FOX 5 Atlanta reports the deputies were called to a party at Two Mile Creek Park that was being attended by at least two dozen teenagers. The youngsters fled the scene in various directions. Authorities believe some of the teenagers may have run into the lake to escape from the deputies.

Officials are concerned that the three missing teenagers are among the group that may have ran into Lake Lanier, and are prepared to search the lake if the three are not found on land.
