Police say Sharon Wilkins, 54, was killed by husband Dan Wilkins, 65, who then turned the gun on himself as police arrived onto the scene.

UPDATE at 3:03 p.m.: The Sandy Springs Police Department has released the name of the shooter in Wednesday morning’s murder-suicide.

Dan Wilkins, 65, of Roswell, is the estranged husband of Sharon Wilkins, 54, who was shot and killed just before 9 a.m. Aug. 13, said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Capt. Steve Rose.

Rose said Wilkins came to the home on 7545 Chaparral Drive, which belonged to Sharon Wilkins’ mother, and shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun onto himself as police arrived onto the scene.

Roswell police executed a search warrant at a home at 670 Wood Valley Trace Wednesday afternoon. Roswell police spokesperson Zachary Frommer stated the home in Roswell is the last known address of the husband and where the two recently lived together.

Sharon Wilkins’ mother was in the house at the time of the shooting, but was not injured, Rose added.

The Sandy Springs Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened Wednesday morning in the northern part of the city.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at a home at 7545 Chaparral Drive. According to Sandy Springs police, the 911 call made to dispatchers from the victim’s mother noted the woman — 54-year-old Sharon Wilkins — had been shot multiple times and the shooter was still on the scene.

Wilkins was rushed to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell where she later died. Authorities also found a man, believed to be Wilkins’ husband, dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Sandy Springs police said.
