DeKalb Schools Softball: Regional Tournaments Underway

Ten DeKalb County Schools softball teams are competing in regional action in the effort to secure the highest possible seed for the upcoming GHSA State Softball Tournament.

Clarkston was the first play dropping an 18-0 decision to Blessed Trinity and setting up an elimination game against Westminster which lost to Buford by a score of 6-0.

Region 5-AAA opens its region tournament on Saturday (Oct. 1) with games at Riverwood and Woodward Academy.

Arabia Mountain (11-2) is the No. 2 seed out of 5B-AAA and opens up at 11 a.m. against 5A-AAA No. 3 seed Riverwood (10-12) at Woodward Academy on Saturday.

Cedar Grove (3-5) travels to Riverwood to take on 5A-AAA No. 1 seed St.
Pius (16-11) in a 1 p.m. game following 5B-AAA No. 3 seed Columbia (10-9)
against 5A-AAA No. 2 seed North Springs (9-12) which starts at 11 a.m.

Druid Hills, the 5A-AAA No. 4 seed, will take on home-standing 5B-AAA No. 1 seed Woodward Academy (15-5) at 1 p.m.

Saturday’s losers face elimination games at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the sites they played their first game.

The Region 6-AAAA tournament is being hosted by Marist and begins on Monday, Oct. 3 with two single elimination play-in games.

The No. 4 seeded Chamblee Bulldogs (14-6) take on Tucker (11-6) at 4 p.m. followed by No. 3 seed Dunwoody (10-11) against No. 6 seed Southwest DeKalb (8-8) at 5:30 p.m.  The winners advance to the double elimination tournament to play the top two seeds on Tuesday.

Marist (12-8), the No. 1 seed, will host the Chamblee-Tucker winner at 5 p.m. while No. 2 seed Lakeside (16-1) faces the Dunwoody-SW DeKalb winner at 6:30 p.m. All four of these teams advance to the state playoffs.
