72 Displaced In Chamblee Apartment Fire: Reports

CHAMBLEE, GA — Residents at a Chamblee apartment complex were forced to evacuate after a roof fire Sunday in the 5000 block of Peachtree Boulevard, according to police and a media report.

The fire caused a road closure at the intersection of Peachtree and Clairmont Road, Chamblee Police said. The apartment complex is attached to retail space.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue responded to the fire. The department told WAGA-TV the origin of the blaze was an air conditioning unit on the roof of the impacted apartment building.

Heavy smoke arose, and the roof partially collapsed, WAGA-TV reported. There were reportedly no injuries.

However, the fire displaced 72 residents, WXIA-TV reported. They were reportedly being assisted by the American Red Cross.
