Art Students Make TCA Proud

Recently, middle and high school art students from Trinity Chapel Academy participated in the Youth Art Exhibit in the Georgia National Fair in Perry.  The GA National Fair which is now in its 22nd year, is the official state sponsored fair. Annually this fair attracts an average of more than 440,000 visitors during the 11 day fair.

Of the twenty two TCA students who were entered by art teacher Suzanne Huff, five students were awarded ribbons. Middle school student, Weston Humphrey was awarded first place for his dramatic graphite drawing “Howling Wolf.”  High school photography student, Alexis Strong was awarded a 3rd place for her vivid manipulation of the Marietta Square fountain.  Sarah Koch, also a very talented high school photography student’ was given an Honorable Mention for her touching portrait of a beloved cat.  High school student Kaci Shirah was awarded an Honorable Mention for her thought provoking portrayal of a peace sign. Middle school student Sean McIlvane was also given an Honorable Mention for an interesting mixed media depiction of a tree. This year’s fair marked the second year of TCA’S participation in the Youth Art Division.

In order for the students to have a good understanding of the setting in which their art was displayed and see the volume of work presented there, 8th grade art students took a field trip to experience it first hand.  While there, they were given the opportunity to vote on a Peoples Choice Award in an adult division. They carefully studied the art and thoughtfully voted for their favorite. The students who voted took the task very seriously and came out with a better understanding of the process.  “I think it is important for young artists to realize that while we can be extremely happy for our award winners, all artist should be happy doing what they love and having an opportunity to exhibit it,” Mrs. Huff
