Board Of Commissioners Approves Council For Justice, Peace, And Reconciliation, W. Cobb

The Board of Commissioners has approved a resolution creating the Cobb County Council for Justice, Peace, and Reconciliation (CJPR) which supports its commitment to fostering a community against racism and developing proactive solutions embracing diversity.

CJPR will collaborate with government and community stakeholders to influence policies and practices that promote equity and equality in Cobb County. It will provide opportunities for members of the community to participate in small group discussions, anti-racism training, and access resources to improve open and honest communication among governmental entities, Cobb County residents and employees.

Each Commissioner and the BOC Chairperson will designate a CJPR appointee to a four-year term. Additionally, the Chamber of Commerce, the Cobb County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Cobb County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Cobb County Bar Association and Kennesaw State University will each appoint a member to a two-year term. Five additional members, to be appointed by the existing CJPR Members, will represent the diversity within Cobb County.

CJPR will operate under the direction of the County Manager. The new board will pick their appointees in January.
