Backyard Gardening

Adventures in backyard gardening.

Well it has finally happened, I caught the gardening bug.  Apparently, once you reach a certain age the urge to garden hits, or at least it seems that way to me.  I have spent the past years of my adult life without once thinking about where the produce in the grocery store comes from.  But suddenly out of the blue the urge hits to raise a few vegetables this year.  I mean after all my grandmother was a farmer, although her farm was on a much grander scale than the back yard.  So how hard can raising a few items be.  So off the the store to find the items I need to carry out my grand gardening adventure.

After going to the store to purchase, vegetable dirt (did you know there was special dirt for gardens),  cow manure, peat moss, and sand which apparently you need to grow strawberries and blueberries.  Then it was log onto the computer to order the materials for the raised garden beds on-line since the beds I wanted were not carried in any store in the area.

Said material arrived arrived and then the work begins.  Four hours later, 4 raised beds assembled, 40 strawberry plants planted, squash and beet seeds sowed, cucumber plants  and 8 blueberry bushes planted.   Also, did you know that tomato plants come already in pots with the cages attached to the pots, very handy dandy little item if you ask me.  Now the fun begins, you have to wait to see what survives.  To be continued hopefully......
