Let's talk economic common cents for Southwest Cobb. with Dr. Michael Rhett

Commissioner with another economic common Cents thought for south west Cobb County.

Currently when we spend our hard earned money at the stores in
our southwest Cobb Community, the vendors immediately take our money out of our community and invest it in their own community.
This leads to a drain in potential investment capital.

The circular flow of economics states that money needs to exchange hands several times in our community before exiting our community. This is how money becomes invested in our well-being and economic vitality.

Example of how money should be invested in our community:

You put your money in your local church offering, the church
contracts and supports a local painter, the local painter supports the local
restaurant, the worker in the local restaurant supports the local auto
mechanic, the local auto mechanic supports the local bowling alley, the local bowling alley attendant supports the local florist etc.

We can encourage business to invest in our southwest Cobb
communities by creating Community Improvement Districts (CID)
similar to Cumberland and Town Center in south Cobb.

In CIDs, businesses in an area collect a fee among themselves, using the revenue for improvements to the immediate community, its infrastructure, and potential
business climate. This helps in the development and recruitment of other
businesses in the area. Now businesses are investing in our community and are part of our community's circular flow of economics.

As businesses in our community value improves so does the amount
of property tax revenue collected. This can positively benefit the residential property owner property tax bill. The residential property owner property tax is not totally providing most of the areas revenue. Now we are not raising the property tax millage to provide the county' basic services.

Working together with the South Cobb Business Association, we can make this a reality.
