Cobb teen honored for positive leadership

Lyric Carter named top finalist at Boys & Girls Clubs' 2016 Youth of the Year Celebration

Lyric Carter, a junior at Pebblebrook Performing Arts High School, recently received a big honor from Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.

On Thursday, Nov. 3, Lyric was named a top finalist at the organization's Youth of the Year Celebration, BGCMA's premier recognition program. Lyric was among 20 Club teens honored for working hard, investing in themselves, and demonstrating outstanding leadership in their schools, Clubs, and communities. Lyric was nominated by Austell's Michael A. Grant Boys & Girls Club where she has been a member for seven years.

Lyric was announced first runner-up at the Youth of the Year competition. The Youth of the Year award is the highest honor a teen can receive through the Boys & Girls Clubs. The rigorous competition requires months of preparation, including essay writing, public speaking, and interviewing sessions.

Lyric is grateful for the opportunity and thanks the Grant Club staff for shaping her into the strong young leader she is today.

"The opportunity to be selected in the (Youth of the Year) program is inspiring and life-changing," Lyric said.

Lyric is a proud member of Grant's Key Club in which she does community service projects. She is also a member of Pebblebrook's track team. After graduating in 2018, Lyric wants to study Engineering at the University of Alabama. Click here to learn more about Lyric Carter.
