Belles, Beaus and Barbecue: A Gone With the Wind Celebration

The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum is hosting another annual extravaganza on Memorial Day weekend, according to the museum's director Connie Sutherland.

Friday, May 25  6:30 - 10:30 p.m.  Marietta Country Club / Let's Go to the Hop! / $110

In keeping with the theme of "Gone With the Wind" through the decades, a dinner will celebrate the 1950s with a Sock Hop - complete with 50s music, dancing and costumes of poodle skirts, saddle shoes and penny loafers. Guest judges will decide prize winners of the Dance Contest, the Hula Hoop-off, Best Costume and Best Elvis. Greg “Talmadge” Picciano (formerly with Atlanta’s 106.7) will act as emcee while spinning the hits all evening long.

Saturday, May 26  11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Glover Park on the Marietta Square / Belles, Beaus and Barbecue! / $45

Here is your chance to be a part of the Twelve Oaks Barbecue and relive the thrill of that memorable day as you take a step onto the movie screen. Those attending are invited to dress as their favorite GWTW character. Barbecue with all the fixings plus dessert will be served - hopefully before Civil War soldiers arrive on horseback to tell everyone the war has started.

Saturday, May 26  6:30 - 6:45 p.m.   Earl Smith Strand Theatre (Second Floor) / First Annual Windie Awards / free

For those who are active participants in the world of "Gone With the Wind" (such as attend all events, collect memorabilia, have a Tara’s Theme ringtone, own pets named after a GWTW character), they carry the title of “Windie.” This first annual Windie Awards Ceremony is designed to express gratitude to the Windies for all they do in the name of "Gone With the Wind" and for the Marietta museum.

Saturday, May 26  7 - 10 p.m.  Earl Smith Strand Theatre (Second Floor) / "Tell Us Everything!" Interview and Q&A / $45

Following the Windie Awards, you can hear the life stories of actors Morgan Brittany, Patrick Curtis and Mickey Kuhn. They will tell the good and the not-so-good as they share their journeys during this very personal, enlightening evening. Brittany portrayed Vivien Leigh as Scarlett in two TV movies. In the 1939 movie, Curtis and Kuhn portrayed Beau Wilkes, the son of Ashley and Melanie.
