Hillgrove Named School of Excellence

The honor was given to 26 total Georgia schools because they showed either the greatest improvements or highest achievements.

has been named a 2011 Georgia School of Excellence by State School Superintendent John Barge.

The honor was given to 26 total Georgia schools because they showed either the greatest improvements or highest achievements in the state, according to a news release. Hillgrove was chosen from the greatest improvements category.

"These schools are showing that excellence can be achieved when they focus on providing a world-class education for their students," Barge says in the release.

Each of the schools will receive a $1,000 check from Georgia Natural Gas.

Schools qualifying for the honor are chosen from each Congressional District in either of the categories. Here are the explanations of the categories and the schools that got the award in those categories.

Top 10%: Schools that are in the top 10 percent in Georgia as measured by assessments in reading and math.
