Ram Readers Read to Achieve

The group from Austell Intermediate was chosen as this week's Whiz Kids.

Know a great kid who became an Eagle Scout? Or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree.

Each week, Patch will seek suggestions from readers for accomplished individual kids, youth groups, teens and even sports teams. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. Submit your nominations in our comment box below or e-mail them to michael.stone@patch.com. Be sure to include all of the following information:

Whiz Kids: Kelly Adike, Malik Balogun, Denia Carlton, Maleeha Khan, Aaliyah Leonard, Jarrod Smith (fifth grade); Sherrod Crum, Elliot Freeman, Javier Rivera (fourth grade); Michelle Anyanwu, Cameron Cummings, Devan Whitfield (alternates)

Accomplishment: The Ram Readers at the West Georgia regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Saturday and will head to the bowl's divisional playoffs later this month.

Key to Awesomeness: From co-captains Jarrod Smith and Malik Balogun.

Smith: "Reading books that are harder and above my reading level. Practicing a lot, and never giving up." Also, Smith said his dad made him want read "because he writes a lot of science fiction books."

Balogun: "Reading all 17 books (that the bowl had questions on) and coming in second place in the competition. Working real hard, and team work. I just happen to love reading."
