West Cobb iPod Thief Gets Prison Time

A 20 year old Marietta man will spend at least the next 12 years of his life behind bars after he was found guilty of aggravated assault and robbery by a Cobb County jury, the Cobb County Distirct Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

Shareef Tawwab Hakim stole an iPod from a 16-year-old male at an apartment complex on Bellemeade Road on Oct. 22, 2013, the DA’s Office said. Hakim came up behind the young man, placed him in a headlock, and stole the device before making a getaway,

According to Cobb County jail records, Hakim was arrested by Cobb County police on Nov. 10, 2013 in the 700 block of Reeves Lake Drive, off of Powder Springs Road.

After a jury convicted Hakim on Thursday, Cobb County Superior Court Judge Robert D. Leonard II sentenced him to 20 years in prison, with a mandatory 12 year stint before he can be considered for parole.

“He is violent, and this is all a joke to him,” Assistant District Attorney Jaret Usher said in a statement. “His demeanor demonstrates that.”
