McEachern Wind Symphony to Play Before 1,200 People

The Wind Symphony is set to perform before roughly 1,200 people in the University of Georgia's 62nd annual High School Music Workshop on Friday.

The workshop is meant for "talented high school musicians throughout the Southeast," according to a news release from McEachern. The school's 63-member ensemble was selected to perform last June following an application review. The students playing are named below.

"This festival provides instrumental music students with nationally renowned conductors and performers on the campus of UGA," the release says. "In addition to clinics and rehearsals, the high school students attend concerts performed by University of Georgia students, as well as premier high school ensembles."

The students in the McEachern Wind Symphony had to audition and must maintain high standards to remain in the ensemble. They have been preparing for the workshop throughout the fall.

The ensemble is scheduled to perform on Friday at 2 p.m. at UGA's Hugh Hodgson Auditorium.

"The program will include a mixture of standard and contemporary composers spanning over a century of great repertoire," the release says.

The band program is under the leadership of band directors Jeff Harper, Sheldon Frazier and Cecilia Clark. Annually, the program serves about 260 students in three concert bands, jazz band, percussion ensemble, winterguard, marching band and various chamber ensembles.
