Alleged Road Rage Shooter Indicted on Attempted Murder Charge

Ronald Beswick-Diaz is accused of shooting a motorist in front of Kroger and a Cherokee Sheriff's Office precinct.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The man accused of shooting at a motorist during a road rage incident in April has been indicted in connection to those charges.

A Cherokee County grand jury on Monday indicted Ronald Lynn Beswick-Diaz on one count of criminal attempt to commit murder, five counts of aggravated assault and four counts each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and criminal damage to property in the first degree, according to court records.

Those documents do not show when Beswick-Diaz is scheduled to be arraigned on those charges, however.

The series of harrowing events unfolded around 8 p.m. Friday, April 8 in front of the Kroger shopping center on Highway 92 at Robin Road in unincorporated Acworth.

Cherokee 911 dispatchers received calls from witnesses who reported one of the vehicles cut the other off.

The vehicles were described as a white van and a black SUV, and their drivers were stopped in the middle of the state highway arguing with each other. Those witnesses told authorities they saw "the barrel of a firearm come out of the window of the van and fire multiple shots at the SUV," the sheriff's office previously told Patch.

The SUV fled the area westbound on Highway 92 and the van followed. The SUV drove to the sheriff's office's Oak Grove precinct at 100 Ridge Mill Court where "we believe he was looking for deputies," the agency said.

However, those deputies had been dispatched to calls of service at that time.

Additional gunshots were fired from the van at the SUV in front of the precinct, and the SUV continued to flee westbound on Highway 92 towards Interstate 75 as the van continued its pursuit.

The driver of the SUV made it to Hardee's on Highway 92 at I-75 where it wrecked. That driver fled on foot, and the driver of the van -- later identified as Beswick-Diaz -- chased the motorist through the fast food restaurant.

The victim, a 35-year-0ld male, was able to elude the driver of the van. Police say Beswick-Diaz subsequently fled the scene via the southbound entrance ramp of the interstate.

Cherokee sheriff's deputies later located the shooting victim behind the restaurant with injuries to his leg, neck and arm. He was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Beswick-Diaz was later located in Cobb County where Cherokee deputies took him into custody with the help of Cobb and Marietta police.

After talking with detectives, it was determined that both parties knew each other, the sheriff's office added.
