Carmel Elementary School's Student Council has been hard at work on several projects. The Council is made up of 4th and 5th grade students and is overseen by faculty sponsor and 5th grade teacher, Mr. Delanuez. The Council is primarily a service organization and they have led their support to several great causes.
Earlier this school year, the Student Council sponsored a school wide food drive in conjunction with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office to help their Christmas Joy Program. Council has also helped with a Hat Day, which raised over $530 for Carmel’s Relay for Life team. Amazingly, this was collected in a little over one hour at the start of the school day, one dollar at a time. In mid-March, they led a candy gram fundraiser called “Lucky Charms” to benefit the March of Dimes.
This year, Student Council President Omar Ahmed introduced “Colt” (a mascot) to assist with Student Council announcements on “Town Hall,” which is Carmel's morning student-run television program. Colt also helped to cheer on all of the Carmel Colts who participated in the outdoor WalkMania events this year.

“Carmel has been a good school for me with great memories,” says Council President Omar Ahmed, “the Student Council has been a good experience. Dr. Bryant has let Reagan (Vice President) and I give input into school projects, like the media center mural. He has been a great principal and is easy to talk to. I hope students next year will be able to enjoy “Colt” after this year’s 5th grade Student Council members go to Middle School. “
