Autopsy Planned For Woman Found in Lake Allatoona

ACWORTH, GA -- An autopsy is planned for later this week to determine the cause of death for the woman whose body was recovered from Lake Allatoona.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab is tentatively set to perform the autopsy on Letrise Portia Ross on Thursday, said Cherokee Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

Search crews found the body of the Acworth resident just after 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 in the lake at Harbor Town Marina, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services previously told Patch.

The victim was recovered from about five to six feet of water roughly 200 yards from the mainland, the agency added.

Ross' family reported her missing to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Sunday afternoon when she did not return to the Webster Boat Ramp near Red Top Mountain in Bartow County.

Ross left the ramp around 10 a.m. Sunday and was expected to return around 1 p.m. the same day, the sheriff's office previously said. Her Jet Ski was discovered floating near an island close to the southwest Cherokee marina around 5 p.m. Sunday.
