Baby, Mom Hit By Jeep Were Hurricane Irma Evacuees

Three-month-old Riley Hunt and her mother were struck Saturday evening in downtown Woodstock. Riley died from her injuries.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The infant who was killed and mother injured after being hit by a car Saturday evening in downtown Woodstock were Hurricane Irma evacuees out to enjoy a night with family and friends. That's according to a GoFundMe page that was created to help the family. Three-month-old Riley Hunt died after she, her mother and a family friend were struck by a vehicle on Arnold Mill Road near the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater.

Riley's mother, 28-year-old Kaitlin Hunt of Port St. Lucie, Florida, was carrying the baby in her arms as she crossed Arnold Mill Road near Hubbard Road with 61-year-old Kathy Deming of Marietta around 8:16 p.m. on Sept. 9. They were hit by a Jeep Patriot driven by 17-year-old Zoe Reardon of Atlanta.

Hunt and Deming remain hospitalized. According to the GoFundMe page, about $575 has been raised so far, and organizers are hoping to generate $100,000 (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app).

Hunt, her baby and Riley's father Brandon Hunt all lived in Port St. Lucie. However, when Hurricane Irma began threatening Florida, Kaitlin's father drove his daughter and granddaughter to Georgia to, as a statement on the GoFundMe page says, "get out of harm's way."

The city of Woodstock was hosting the final show of its 2017 Summer Concert Series at the amphitheater when the collision occurred.

Hunt was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where, according to the GoFundMe page, she has been declared "brain dead."

"Brandon's whole life has been forever changed and will never be the same again," the page says. "He lost his only daughter/child and the love of his life since high school."

It is also possible that upon his return to Florida, Brandon Hunt could find his home heavily damaged or destroyed. While he has a strong support system, the community is being asked to donate whatever they can to help defray the costs of burying his child and caring for his high school sweetheart.

"Please find it in your heart to donate to this beautiful family," the GoFundMe statement reads. "Every penny and prayer counts and is much appreciated."

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has said the accident remains under investigation. If you'd like to contribute to help the Hunt family, visit the GoFundMe website.
