Due to the ongoing construction of the amphitheater at the Park at City Center, the city was forced to cancel this year's installment of its flagship event.

In a bid to keep citizens entertained and to take advantage of the warmer weather, the city is poised to introduce new events throughout the summer.

One such event, Woodstock Roots: A Bluegrass Concert Series, will take place the second Thursday of each month from May to August on the Elm Street Arts Village Event Green.

The shows will be free to attend, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs, food and beverage.

Each show will begin at 7 p.m. and run to about 9 p.m..

“We wanted to continue in the great tradition of live music in Woodstock this summer through a new series of events geared towards a very popular genre of music,” said Mitzi Saxon, downtown program manager for the city. “I think a bluegrass series is the perfect way to celebrate our roots through live original music shows.”

The lineup for the first-ever event includes:

  • Thursday, May 12 – The Tyler Williams Band (Tennessee)
  • Thursday, June 9 – The Sweet Auburn String Band (Atlanta)
  • Thursday, July 14 – Wilson Banjo Company (South Carolina)
  • Thursday, Aug. 11 – Jody Hughes Trio (Canton)

The Elm Street Event Green is located on Market Street near its intersection with Elm Street and runs adjacent to the Noonday Creek trail. It is home to the Resurgens Orthopaedics Community Stage.
