Canton-Based Schoen Insulation Services Builds Habitat Home

Habitat for Humanity - North Central Georgia's first nail ceremony for the Frassen family was held April 16.

Last Saturday, Habitat North Central Georgia held a first nail ceremony for the Franssen family whose home is being built on Arliss Drive in Canton. This will be the fourth home Habitat has built on this street over the last year. It was a beautiful morning and the volunteers couldn’t wait to get started on the framing of the home.

The home is being built for Terri Frannsen and her 6 year old daughter, Peyton. Ms. Frannsen suffers from a debilitating disease and which limits her ability to work. She has struggled for many years trying to make ends meet and being able to take care of her medical needs.

“God would not allow us to go through the difficult times without great purpose,” said Ms. Frannsen. “Finding Habitat for Humanity has been such a blessing in our lives!”

The Frannsen home is being sponsored by Schoen Insulation Services. The company, founded in 1989 and located in Canton, is the national leader in the manufacturing of non-metallic machined parts. Stephen Schoen is active in the local community and a major supporter of Habitat North Central Georgia where he is a member of the Board of Directors. In support of his house sponsorship, Stephen reached out to his business associates who thus far have generously contributed an additional $16,500 to fund construction of the Frannsen home.

Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds affordable homes for purchase by low-income families who demonstrate the capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has completed 278 homes serving an estimated 1,000 family members in the North Fulton area and Cherokee, Dawson and Forsyth Counties. Habitat-NCG does not give away its homes. Partner families, who earn 30% to 60% of the Atlanta area median income, purchase their homes at or near appraised value utilizing 30-year no-interest financing provided by Habitat. In addition, each partner family is required to attend educational classes and perform 200-300 hours of construction “sweat equity.” Family members work side by side with the volunteers, sponsors, and Habitat staff to build their homes. Habitat-NCG’s slogan is “A Hand Up, Not a Handout.” For more information concerning Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia, please visit www.habitat-ncg.org.
