Cause of Death Released For Woman Found Dead in Lake Allatoona

Body of Letrise Portia Ross was recovered from about five to six feet of water on Monday at Harbor Town Marina in southwest Cherokee County.

ACWORTH, GA -- The autopsy results on the woman whose body was found Monday in Lake Allatoona have been released.

The cause of death for Letrise Portia Ross was determined to be drowning while the victim's manner of death was ruled accidental, said Cherokee Sheriff's Office Lt. Jay Baker.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Crime Lab performed the autopsy on Thursday, three days after Ross's body was recovered from the lake at Harbor Town Marina, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Service previously told Patch.

The victim was recovered Sept. 12 from about five to six feet of water roughly 200 yards from the mainland, the agency added.

Ross' family reported her missing to the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Sunday afternoon when she did not return to the Webster Boat Ramp near Red Top Mountain in Bartow County.

Ross left the ramp around 10 a.m. Sunday and was expected to return around 1 p.m. the same day, the sheriff's office previously said. Her Jet Ski was discovered floating near an island close to the southwest Cherokee marina around 5 p.m. Sunday.
