Cherokee Charter Academy Holds Community Information Sessions

Those interested in sending their child to Cherokee Charter Academy may apply online at cherokeecharter.org.

Cherokee Charter Academy will hold information sessions for the public on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at the school located at 2126 Sixes Road in Canton. The event is free and open to the public.

“We find that many people are interested in the charter school concept, but aren’t really sure what to expect,” said Dr. Scott O’Prey, principal of Cherokee Charter. “We are incorporating some very exciting new programs in the upcoming year and look forward to sharing this information with parents.”

According to Dr. O’Prey, parents choose charter schools because they want a different learning environment for their children.

“There are many good schools in our area, so when a parent chooses Cherokee Charter, they are looking for an academic and social environment that will best suit their child’s specific needs. The information sessions help them to discern if our school is right for their child.”

According to Dr. O’Prey, the school’s personal learning plans developed for each student as well as the new STEM focus are two of the things most parents gravitate toward.

“Every child learns differently and has different goals. Instead of taking a cookie cutter approach to education, we can help each student set and achieve individual goals. Because we’ve started the process of applying for STEM certification, our Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs are offered to all students daily, which has definitely drawn the attention of many parents.”
