Cherokee County Acquires Animal Rescue Transport Trailer
The Animal Shelter will use the trailer to assist in animal rescues, transports and for adoption and community events.

CANTON, GA -- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has a new tool to help in its mission of caring for the area's most vulnerable fur babies.
The agency's new Animal Rescue Transport Trailer will be on hand Tuesday, June 20 for you to explore from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cherokee County Administration Building at 1130 Bluffs Parkway in Canton.
This trailer will be used for animal rescues, transports and for adoption and community events. Funds to buy the vehicle were made possible through grants, fundraising and donations collected by the shelter, the county said.

The money for the purchase of the truck to pull the trailer came from a lien that was due and paid this year to the Animal Shelter stemming from a large puppy mill case handled in 2014. The trailer, a 24-foot-long Gooseneck, has 40 cage options for different-sized animals. Its capacity will vary depending on size and type of animal.
The trailer also can be set up to triage animals and can be outfitted to do surgeries, if necessary. The trailer will also be registered with the local and state Emergency Management Agencies, and will be the only disaster response trailer for animals in the region.

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter currently receives requests from counties across the state to assist in responding to large animal cruelty and puppy mill cases, and "having this trailer will allow us to help them more efficiently," the county states.
"What a great opportunity to enhance the services provided by the Animal Shelter and the Marshal’s Office, and all without a burden on the taxpayers of the county," said Cherokee Marshal Office Chief Ron Hunton. "I’m very proud of the men and women that make up our Animal Shelter and Marshal’s Office and of the work they do every day that makes the agency one of the best in the nation.”
