Cherokee Students Outperform State On CRCT
The Cherokee County School District has released the results of the 2014 Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Tests.
Students in the Cherokee County School District have once again outperformed the state on the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Tests.
The GCRCT is issued every spring to students in grades third through eighth in the subjects of reading, English/language arts, math, science and social studies.
The scores are reported in percentages of students who do not meet, meet or exceed standards.
Cherokee Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo notes the district saw a higher percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards than the state; and the district increased its percentage of students who exceeded standards in 13 of 30 possible categories.
Despite the district dealing with state austerity budget cuts, a local tax digest that's slowly beginning to recover and changing demographics, its students continue to excel in academics, Petruzielo stated.
District staff will review the results to identify areas where students can improve and what actions can be taken to get the desired results.
Some of these possible actions could include: developing individual learning plans for students who are not performing oat or above grade level, additional or individualized instruction and individualized practice and assessments through the use of computer software.
