Christmas Tree Chip n Dip Starts Dec 26 in Woodstock

Residents can drop off Christmas trees at Olde Rope Mill Park to be recycled into mulch, which will be made available to residents for free.

WOODSTOCK, GA — The city of Woodstock is offering you the chance to recycle your Christmas tree — and get free mulch from the chippings.

The city's annual Chip n Dip initiative begins Tuesday, Dec. 26 at Olde Rope Mill Park. Here's how it works: starting the day after Christmas, drop your tree off at the park and the city will feed them into its chipper.

The following week, you can return to the park with a shovel from 8 a.m. to dusk to dip into the free mulch. Christmas Tree Chip n Dip runs through Jan. 15, 2018.

If you'd rather wait until the New Year to keep your tree up, the city will host a Bring One for the Chipper event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 6 at the park. Sponsored by the city and Keep Georgia Beautiful and the Woodstock Stormwater Department, the event includes free tree seedlings, coffee and donuts as you drop off your trees for recycling.

You should note the city will not accept decorations, stands or flocked trees; flocked and painted trees are poisonous to the river and animals in the park. For questions or more information, contact Marybeth Stockdale at 770-592-6000 ext: 1952.
