Clark Creek ES Earns Award For Improving Classroom Instruction

ACWORTH, GA — Clark Creek Elementary School STEM has earned national recognition for its successful efforts to improve classroom instruction, the Cherokee County School District said this week.

The school, led by Principal Joey Moss, has earned the Model Professional Learning Community at Work honor from Solution Tree, one of only 200 honored schools and districts in the nation – and only the second school in Georgia, following Etowah High School.

The Professional Learning Communities model is used in all CCSD schools to increase collaboration, share data and best practices, and enhance professional development among teachers. CCSD teachers regularly meet in these small groups, which focus on grade level and/or subject area.

“Congratulations to Clark Creek’s teachers and leaders for their successful collaboration that earned this national recognition,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Hightower said. “Our PLCs empower teachers to share their knowledge and best practices to raise the bar not just for themselves and their students, but also for their school as a whole and our entire school district.”

Solution Tree, a top provider of educational strategies and tools, honors schools that meet specific requirements including effective use of PLCs for at least three years and evidence its practices are improving teaching and learning.

“Honorees show a sustained commitment to helping all of their students achieve at high levels,” according to Solution Tree. “They have been willing to alter the structure and culture of the organization to reflect their commitment. We applaud them and congratulate them for achieving this very significant milestone on the never-ending PLC journey.”

Principal Moss and her leadership team will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board at its Nov. 15 meeting.
