🌱 Concert Chair Placement Starts Now + Extreme Heat Likely To Persist

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Woodstock-Towne Lake.

Hello, Woodstock-Towne Lake. I'm here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Today you'll find these stories and more:

  • It's time to claim your concert spot.
  • NWS hot-weather warnings this week.
  • Waste Management pickups to start early.

But first, today's weather: Partly sunny and hot. High: 96 Low: 73.

Here are the top stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. It's Thursday morning, and that means it's time to put out your chairs for the Bryce Leatherwood concert tomorrow. Lawn, beach and bag chairs can be set up starting at 6 a.m. this morning, but you can't use tarps, blankets, plastic, towels, tables or things that cover or are staked into the ground. Aisles, stairs and walls must be left open, and pets are not allowed, unless it's a service animal. Take a look at the link for information on parking and shuttles to and from the Amphitheater, the opening band, The Whiskey Rose Band, takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. (Woodstock Parks and Recreation)
  2. The National Weather Service is advising that temperatures are expected to remain high throughout the rest of the week, with several days nearing the 100-degree mark. While everyone is at risk for heat-related emergencies, people that are pregnant, the elderly, newborns, children and those with chronic illnesses have a harder time regulating body temperatures and should stay inside and out of the heat. Remember neighbors, don't leave pets or people inside a closed vehicle, use air conditioners and stay in the shade, drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated and wear loose-fitting, lightly colored clothing. (U.S. National Weather Service via Facebook)
  3. The City of Woodstock has put the word out on its Facebook page that due to the extremely high temperatures this week, Waste Management collections will be starting earlier in the day. Be sure to get those bins out early, the trucks will start moving at 6 a.m. today and tomorrow. The post says that the neighborhoods affected will be Woodstock Downtown and Oakhurst today and Brookshire, Woodstock Knoll and Meridian at Ridgewalk tomorrow. (City of Woodstock via Facebook)
  4. As a reminder, the application window for the Citizens' Public Safety Academy is now open. The academy is run by the Woodstock Police and Fire departments, and it starts on Sept. 14, meeting on Thursday evenings. You can pick up an application at the Woodstock Police Department or online here, and you'll deliver your application to the Woodstock Police Department in person. You must be 19 years or older, have no felonies or criminal misdemeanors on your record and live, work or have an expressed interest in Woodstock. The deadline to apply is Sept. 12.
